Nikoleta Sekulovic

Nikoleta Sekulovic’s boldly-coloured, imaginative surfaces engage with the notion of identity in a profound and symbolic way. Previously recognised for her muted paintings of female nudes, the Madrid-based artist’s outstanding new body of work portrays clothed subjects in richly decorated contexts and elegant period dress. Each painting is an act of homage to a poet, painter, or philosopher from history. Inspired by the floral designs of William Morris, and by verses of poetry inscribed on the back of her canvases, her paintings celebrate the moral and intellectual ideals of her subjects through the lens of her own distinctive vision.

Sekulovic is represented by the Rebecca Hossack Art Gallery, an international, female-led gallery that predominantly champions the work of female artists.
